The Apartment on Yucca Book Cover

In short
For The Apartment on Yucca, I created a poster and later a book cover that blend 1940s Hollywood charm with comedic flair. The illustrated design and vintage-inspired title reflect the story’s tone and setting, supporting its release as both a podcast and stage play.

I had the pleasure of creating the podcast poster for The Apartment on Yucca, a new comedy stage play by contemporary author Stephen Jared, presented both as a podcast performance and a book.

The project began with an illustrated podcast poster set in a rundown Hollywood apartment, featuring a stylish view of the Capitol Records building and the Broadway Hollywood sign on Yucca Street. The title design, inspired by the witty title cards of 1930s-40s Hollywood comedies, adds a playful yet nostalgic touch that perfectly suits the story’s humor and setting. Later, I adapted this concept into a book cover, preserving the classic Hollywood charm.

The Apartment on Yucca was a semi-finalist at B Street Theater’s New Comedies Festival in Sacramento and is now available on the Premiere the Play podcast.

Special thanks to Stephen Jared for this creative journey.

“I’ve hired Gilles three times. I’ve no doubt I’ll hire him again. He’s great at finding the most essential elements in a visual idea. His clean, subtle work always results in bold, heroic images.”
